Appearance
The bread comes in a white paper bag with ingredients and nutrition information. This is an adorable little round loaf, with a cross-shaped score on top, which is nicely open. The color is grey/brown, and several walnut chunks are visible on top. The loaf feels fairly dense for such a small size. The crust is not very hard, but it definitely resists. The outside smell is not strong but noticeable, it is doughy and good. I could not detect any walnut smell. The cut was easier than expected, considering the crust. Making good-looking slices was not difficult. The crumb is a pleasant grey, with chunks of walnut visible. The density seems a bit above average for this type of bread. The inside smell is a very good sourdough, fresh, still no walnut smell. Taste
The crust is good but could use more body -- as it is it's just not quite the right mouthfeel. Otherwise very good sourdough taste, with walnuts very much there. The crumb is excellent, good consistency, very good sourdough taste, and the walnuts are excellent. Conclusion
The crust needs a bit of work in the consistency department, otherwise this is an excellent walnut bread, tasty and very enjoyable. |
