Appearance
The baguette comes in a white paper bag with nutrition and ingredients information. The general appearance is quite pleasing. The loaf has five scores on top making attractive ridges, very nice golden color, lots of fennel, sesame and poppy seeds on top and on the sides. Density is average, crust is supple -- not soft, but it gives way relatively easily. The fennel smell is quite strong, so much so that I could hardly detect any bread smell. The cut is easy, and making good-looking slices was no problem. The crumb is white and looks fluffy (no surprise there). The inside smell, much like the outer, is overpowered by the fennel. I do not object to this since I am quite fond of the scent. Taste
The texture of the crust is pleasant if a bit soft, strong fennel taste, quite nice. The taste of the bread is faint behind the fennel. The crumb, much to my surprise, was a bit dry. I also did not really detect any sourdough taste. Otherwise, the crumb also tastes of fennel more than anything. Conclusion
I liked the fennel smell and taste, but the bread itself could use a bit of work. |
