Appearance
The bread comes in a transparent plastic bag, which may be OK for this type of bread. This bread is in the standard pain de mie format. The top is a dark brown, and is covered with various whole grains, as are the sides. The bottom is wrinkled and not all that appealing (but not that bad). The density is a bit below average. The crust is moderately resistant, and the loaf springs back nicely when squeezed. The outside smell is fairly strong, unusual, not unpleasant but not a smell I associate with bread. The bottom smell is the same, a bit mustier. The cut is relatively easy, and the slices look OK. The inside looks good, nice grey with lots of visible grains. The smell is good and promising. Taste
The crust's consistency is OK, very nutty because of all the grains. Hints of rancidity here and there, but overall relatively pleasant. The crumb is light and fluffy, good melt. The many grains provide an occasional soft chew which is pleasant. Moist and reasonably tasty. Aftertaste is good. Conclusion
This would be a fairly good bread for people who like lots of grains. The taste is overall pleasant, the smell is surprising, perhaps caused by some of the 7 grains. |
