Appearance
This bread comes in a transparent plastic bag (which may be OK for this type of bread). It is a big round loaf, with a whole lot of grains and bits of onion on top. The crust is soft, and not great-looking. The bread feels quite dense. The crust is in fact very soft when poked, but the loaf is otherwise resilient. This is one fragrant bread! It's a good smell, perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste, but that's just me. The smell is that of molasses/corn syrup, with sweet onions mixed in, plus of course some bread thrown in for good measure. The loaf cuts well, even though it's quite dense. The body looks good, with almost no visible grains or herbs. The inside smell is more bready, a bit less sweet than the outside smell. Taste
The crust is sweet with onions. The body is dense, also sweet with onions. The texture is good, with a bit of munch here and there, which gives it character. This is a pleasant bread, perhaps a bit too sweet for certain applications. Nutrition
No nutrition information. The ingredients are very wholesome, and I like the fact that the flour is hand-ground. Conclusion
A very good bread, I do wish there was more to the flavor than just the onion. I thought the sweetness was a bit excessive, or at least should have been achieved with something better than corn sweetener. However, this bread receives my endorsement for being well made and tasting very good. |
